what a delay on news, months really - and here we are, halfway through our summer already. It's July 18th, and I'm sitting in the ultra-secret graphic design department of Apple Headquarters in Supertino. I've been up here playing for a few weeks, heading home next week. It's been great, an amazing environment, smart people, good ideas - what you want from a good design gig. I moved into a new house a few weeks ago, and have turned the Beach House into a collective office between myself, stolen.la and Woerk.com. I am SO excited to be working in the greatest office, with the greatest friends. It will have to wait though, for I return home next week, am home for 6 days, and then i'm off to Central America for 5 weeks to travel, explore, and take 4000 frames. After that I will return, to finally start constructing my REAL photography portfolio, and REALLY try and get some work. F YA

to be a professional documentarian, to play and live by the sound of a flamenco guitar, to climb kilamanjaro while there�s still snow, to tie a flag up with a sherpa at everest basecamp, to get lost in Katmandu, to touch my grandfather through bonsai trees, to meet and talk with either Paul Kagame, General Romeo Dallaire or Fergal Keane about the bowels of hell, to ask Christiane Amanpour and James Nacthwey why we fight, to enter the Church at Nyarubuye to listen, to find my friend Cous Cous in Essouria, to trailride a motorcycle from Ensenada to San Jose del Cabo, to take Barrack Obamas portrait, to tell short stories through commercial shorts, to run with Doctors without Borders, to help hungry children, to race rally cars, to be loved the whole day through, to live in Kauai, to fish on a boat in south of Thailand, to learn Italian and Portuguese, to have Bebel Gilberto sing within 5 feet of me, to go to carnival in Rio and then drive the coast of Brazil in a jeep, to own a Labrador named Crash, to stop smoking and start running, to go to either the North or South Pole, to own a Cream and white 1967 21 Window VW bus, to have beautiful healthy children, to know how to cook good Indian food, to cliffdive, to learn and sing Nick Drakes Pink Moon, to really know what �I love you� means, to own a boat and work on it, to visit Tokyo, to have apple trees & have my children collect them off the ground.

so i've started a nice gig here with the fine folks of Tequila and Chiat Day. This place is a creative super-center, I've never seen anything quite like it. I am sitting on the back wall of one of my personal heroes offices, Lee Clow. And as I write this, my friend Raz pours me a fresh cup of tea. Goodtimes.

without music ? This week scored monumental additions to my library. In no particular order : Peter Bjorn & John has me singing aloud by myself, The Good the Bad & the Queen kicked me in face and I'm still on the floor, After a couple listens - I'm in love with Cat Power's The Greatest, The New AIR is back to basics for the better, Ratatat Classics is on repeat for my insane Santa Monica mountain drives and finally Arcade Fire's Neon Bible is deep & layered & insane. A slew of others include: Swan Lake, Beach House, Annuals, Beirut, The Most Serene Republic, Matt Ketterman, K.C. Accidental, Benoit Pioulard, The Colorful Quiet, Voxtrot & Matt Costa.

so, it's February. January was wonderful and strange all wrapped into one. All i know is I could really deal with some 85 degree weather, and a bucket of Pacificos on a beach somewhere in Baja. Why is it January and not July ?

so I've had a cold this week. I'm thinking the cause is going from Mammoth this past weekend at -10 degrees, back to LA where it SNOWED in Malibu 3 days ago, and now the un is all perked up at a nice 68 degrees. How can I go from fully covered to a tanktop and shorts in a matter of days ? Too Bizarre.

so it's 2007, early january, and 75 degrees at 10:15 in the morning. A year that will hope yield a new spectrum of projects and challenges to explore. It's started well, as a group of the usuals this weekend hit the My Morning Jacket show at the Wiltern in Hollywood. It was loud, damn loud - and so good. Jim James often sounds like the entire female backup section from Pink Floyd, no joke. His voice could shatter windows if given the opportunity.
So recommended, it hurts...

so today, at 2 something in the morning, 32 years ago, i arrived on earth. Thirty-Two, early thirties, time to ramble. These next few years I will take grand steps, steps to solidify dreams, to leave old useless things behind, and forge forward into new directions. I will travel, far and wide. I will shoot twice as many pictures than before, and flex this desire for the new. I will shine, and will find the light to do so.

so the holidays are peeling around the corner. Windy and wet skies have towered over the pacific for the last few days, and it's finally feeling like winter. I jetted up to SF last week to catch Glen Hansard and Demian Rice with Mike and Ness at the magnificent Paramount Theater in Oakland. Glen Hansard seriously stole the show. I'm back in La for a couple weeks, then back north for some holiday, tahoe, family time.
